Reason for creating a Fund of Funds:
Our goal is to create a consistent returns of more than 12% with diversified assets. Usually you are limited to buying only few stocks, funds or ETF that could generate massive dividend of 12 to 17 percent. The problem bothered me for years together. With volatile markets its almost impossible to come up with picking only few stocks because one of them could go down 60 to 70 percent. So I decided to find top funds that give more than 10 percent dividend yield. I used stockcharts.com to find that list. It gave me about 60 dividend paying stocks and ETFs that could generate that kind of dividend payment.  Now the problem is to pick the best out of these 60. I eliminated stocks that were individual companies. I was left with only ETF. (ETF is basket of stocks that diversify your risk over multiple stocks)
Risk Management: If I invest in only one ETF that returns 17% dividend payment like CLM in abouv list there is still lot of risk. Even though the risk is diversified you would never know what these guys are doing on inside. So picking just on ETF is out of question. I am not even looking for return of 17% because that will be foolish to do so. By nature, I do not believe into market makers tactics. Only choice that appeals to my safety oriented mind is to buy all these together. Capital persevation is my of my agenda. I found website called MOTIFINVESTING.com
Motif investing allows you to create your own collection of Highest Paying Dividend Stocks. The beauty is you can buy the whose basket of 30 stocks for just 250 dollars. They will give you portion of the each ETF in your basket. Can you imagine how relaxed you feel when the risk is divided in 30 different dividend paying assets. For me this was the way to go. I will explain more about how the MOTIF works later in another post. At this point, it is interesting to know that you could buy all 30 ETFs will make money the day you start investing into you. Imagine you could actually test this 250 dollars. Invest 250 dollars every two weeks to average the holdings. This is tremendous power in your hands.

Observe three data points on this chart. First is RTN = Return since creation. This will be change in the price of ETF in this basket. Daily Change is how much the price of ETF holding has changed today. Important point to note is how much percentage return this will generate over a period of 1 year. This return is irrespective of RTN generated since creation.
If I could suggest anything, copy this basket and create your own and invest every two weeks a small amount for a year and observe how it works for you. If market turns down then you have opportunity to get more units for your money. Copy will let you operate your own money fund but you might miss on any adjustments I will make to this core ETF. I don’t expect to change it a lot because you need to do some technical analysis about the overall trend in the individual holding.
